So, what do you do when you are the proclaimed number one fighter in the world but not fighting the best competition? You get out of your contract that’s what you do. Jessica "Jag” Aguilar (15-3-1) made the decision up in her mind last week as she mentioned on the popular show The MMA Hour. She also announced on the platform that she has been released from her WSOF contract this past Monday and is waiting by the phone. There is a possibility she may sign with the promotion by the time this article is up but we shall see. Her last fight for the World Series of Fighting was back in November of 2014 which she won a unanimous decision over the very game and talented Kalindra Faria. Since then she has been waiting on the next and perfect opportunity to come her way but it’s rather difficult when the top women are all in the UFC and Invicta.

Never one to shy away from letting her voice be heard former UFC Strawweight Champion Carla Esparza mentioned on the aforementioned platform that she knows Aguilar is dirty. Strong accusations that MMA Hour’s host Ariel Helwani brought up during their interview Monday afternoon. Of course Jessica brushed off the accusations but this does provide an intriguing feud if the promotion decides to sign her. The two squared off against each other back in 2011 so a renewed rivalry would not be out of the question. Though as Jag also mentioned in the interview that she has “been there, done that” with Carla and has her eyes set on the championships. So, that presents the question if she deserves the title shot right off the bat? Many would not think it matters as most feel the 115 title will change hands frequently. We don’t think current Champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk  would feel the same but she already has her next opponent lined up in Jessica Penne. Regardless if she gets the shot or not there are plenty of good fights that could line up for her. It’s possible a match up with Claudia Gadelha would be something of interest but don’t count out the upcoming fight between Rose Namajunas and Nina Ansaroff at this weekends UFC 187.

One thing we are sure of is that Jessica is now a free agent and WSOF President Ray Sefo had no issues with letting her go stating “We wish Jessica all the best, and hope that she will achieve everything she wants to in her career that is blossoming,” He also added “We sat down with Jessica and her manager and we all agreed that she needs to move on to a place where she can compete against the best 115 pound women in the world”. This is not surprising as WSOF has always been a fighter first type of organization and clearly has a pipeline of fighters going and coming from the UFC. We hope to see her under the Zuffa banner sooner than later so we can finally answer a question that’s been looming in the women’s 115 division for sometime “Is Jessica the best in the world?” We have a feeling we will know soon, and oh by the way UFC go ahead and pick up Kalindra Faria and Karolina Kowalkiewicz contracts as well!
