The level of play this season from Ana Ivanovic has been on par with 2008 when she won the French Open. She had 47 victories on tour this year coming into the US Open, more than any other woman on tour. However, she put in another poor performance in a Grand Slam tournament falling to Karolina Pliskova in the second round 7-5, 6-4. Ivanovic must reevaluate her tactics at the biggest tournaments.

Pliskova's length at 6'1" bothered Ivanovic all day in what she called a "really bad day." Ivanovic double faulted eight times and had 29 unforced errors which was 10 more than her opponent. She was only able to win 44% of her second serves. In an area that Ivanovic should have capitalized on she was only able to take 57% of her first serves.

Ivanovic equaled her career high of three titles this season, but becomes the second top 10 woman to bow out of the tournament after Agnieszka Radwańska was upset last night. Ivanovic was deflated in her post-match press conference. She has had good success just ahead of all the Grand Slams this year, but it is time to go back to the drawing board if she wants to win another major title.
