Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall netted a hat trick to lead Canada to a 10-0 win over Germany on Sunday at the world hockey championships.

Cody Eakin added a pair of goals of his own, while Aaron Ekblad, Claude Giroux, Tyler Ennis, Sidney Crosby and Matt Duchene also scored for Canada, who improve to 2-0 on the tournament after Friday’s 6-1 win over Latvia. Martin Jones registered the shutout after he turned away 18 shots.

Dennis Endras started in net for Germany (1-1), but was pulled after allowing six goals in favour of Aus den Birken.

Canada’s captain, Crosby, opened the scoring at the 11:58 mark of the first period after he finished off a pass from Ryan O’Reilly over the shoulder of Endras.

Hall made it 2-0 just 23 seconds after that, slotting home a pass from behind the net from Oilers teammate Jordan Eberle.

Eakin added a third for Canada after O’Reilly tacked on his second assist of the game. The Colorado Avalachne player stole the puck from a German defender deep in the offensive zone and made the feed for the goal.

Eakin scored his second of the game and period just two minutes later to give Canada a 4-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.

Another Avalanche player got on the stat sheet after Duchene made a nice feed to Hall on an odd-man rush who finished it off to make it 5-0.

Endras was pulled after surrendering the sixth goal of the night to Ekblad. The rookie of the year candidate pinched in from the blue to finish off a one-time shot from a feed by Jake Muzzin.

Giroux added a goal and an assist after that, setting up Ennis in the slot to tack on another goal to up the score to 8-0.

Hall capped his hat trick near the end of the second period to extend Canada’s lead to 9-0 and end a five-goal second period for the Canadians.

Canada took their foot off the pedal in the final period, scoring one goal via a Duchene penalty shot to make it 10-0.

Canada are right back at it tomorrow as they face a much firmer test in the host Czech Republic. Germany have a day off before facing off against Switzerland on Tuesday.
