The 2015 College World Series begins Tomorrow in Omaha, Nebraska. Of the eight teams in the College World Series, four teams are national seeds. Since national seeds were introduced in 1999, 57 percent of them have made the World Series, according to ESPN.

The tournament is contested in a modified double elimination style. The eight teams are divided into two “pools,” with the pools being a mini double elimination bracket. The winners of the pools then meet in a best of three Championship series.

Miami has the most College World Series appearances with 24, while Vanderbilt and TCU are tied at three for least appearances. Three of the teams were in the College World Series last year, those being TCU, Vanderbilt, and Virginia.

In the past 34 years, only three teams have lost their first game and still won the championship. USC in 1998, Oregon State in 2006, and South Carolina in 2010. Of the past 22 tournaments, those teams that won their first games have won the College World Series a whopping 22 times. That’s a 88% success rate.

This is the 23rd straight year that the SEC has had a team in the College World Series. They have four teams this year. In the last 18 years, only four times has a conference had four teams in the CWS, with three of those times being the SEC. The lone outlier was the ACC in 2006. The SEC doesn’t only have a stranglehold on tournament appearances, they also have won four of the past six titles.

The postseason was not kind to the Big Ten. They sent five teams to the regionals, with two teams advancing to the Super Regionals. However, no teams from the Big Ten advanced to the CWS. Speaking of conferences not having teams in the CWS, this is the first time that the Pac-12 has not had a team in the tournament.

Enough talk, here is the schedule for the first two days of play.
