After racing last week at Pocono Raceway where fuel mileage played a big part in the ending of the race, the Sprint Cup Series moves to Watkins Glen International for one of the few road course races on the series' schedule.
The track features 10 turns and is long enough that green flag pit stops can happen without drivers losing laps.
One of the big stories entering the race is Kyle Busch, who had a great run at Pocono and took the lead with two to go when Joey Logano ran out of gas. Had Busch won the race, he would have been locked into the Chase with just a few races to go. He would run out of gas also, however, and Matt Kenseth went on to win the race, sending Busch back outside the top-30 in points, meaning another bad run or two will eliminate his chances of making the chase.
Here's how it stands entering this weekend:
Jimmie Johnson leads the point standings with just five races left until the chase begins. Aric Almirola, Kyle Larson, and Greg Biffle are just a few of the drivers who are on the outside looking in. A win for any of those drivers will lock them into the chase, provided that they remain in the top-30 in points.
Stay tuned to the NASCAR section of VAVEL USA for continued coverage this weekend from Watkins Glen International.
