Matt Kenseth, who enters the weekend as the points leader, earned pole position forSaturday night's Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, turning a time of 27.759 seconds in the final round to best Kyle Busch by two hundreths of a second. 

In the first round, it was Kevin Harvick who was the fastest, as he turned a lap in 28 seconds to top the leaderboard. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was second-quickest with a time of 28.049 seconds, with Busch, Brad Keselowski, and Kenseth rounding out the top-five. AJ Allmendenger narrowly advanced into the second round, as his time of 28.436 was enough to get him the 24th and final spot in the second round. 

Jamie McMurray was one of the drivers who did not advance into the second round, one week after he was eliminated from the Chase by Earnhardt Jr. Other notable drivers to not advance were Kyle Larson, Trevor BayneRicky Stenhouse Jr., and Tony Stewart.

After qualifying, Stewart was unahppy with his preformance, and he made it known when he tweeted:

"Totally embarrassed about tonight, something has to change."

In the second round, Kenseth was fastest with a best lap of 27.904 seconds. Joey Logano was second, with Earnhardt Jr. third-fastest. Harvick and Busch rounded out the top-five, with Carl Edwards getting the 12th and final spot in the third round. 

Some notable drivers who did not advance to the third round were Keselowski, Austin Dillon, Kasey Kahne, Jeff Gordon, and Clint Bowyer.

In the third and final round, Kenseth was the first driver to complete a lap, and he also ran the fastest lap, a 27.759 - which would remain at the top and earn him the pole.

Busch was second with a time that was almost two hundreths of a second slower than Kenseth. Logano will start third, with Greg Biffle and Denny Hamlin rounding out the top-five.

Saturday night will mark Kenseth's fourth start from pole of the season, a new career high for him. It is also his 17th career pole, and his second ever pole at Charlotte.
