The Atlanta Hawks have made the playoffs in 7 straight seasons. But time after time they fail to win the big series. Drafting well can get them over that hump, and drafting guys like Adreian Payne in the first round just might get them over that hump relatively quickly.

Payne was selected 15th overall by the Hawks. The Michigan State University standout played in 31 games, averaging 16.4 points per game, 7.3 rebounds per game, with just over one assist per game. Payne is a stretch forward that will fit into Coach Mike Budenholzer's scheme very well.

The 2nd round selection of Walter Tavares could be a stow away type pick. Tavares who has been playing in professionally in African is a massive 7'3" with a even bigger wingspan and is wildly popular as he has been seen in several international commericals. Tavares, who perfers to go by Edy and not Walter, could be a major factor with his shot blocking for the Hawks this year if they decide to push him to the NBA level right now. If they do not decide for him to join the team this year, his impact could still be felt in a year or two. After a few more years of seasoning, he could be a dominant force.

The Hawks made a somewhat surprising move late in the draft. The acquired the Milwaukee Bucks 48th overall pick for a 2015 2nd round pick. With the 48th pick the Hawks selected Lamar Patterson. Patterson played for the University of Pittsburgh where he was somewhat of a productive guard. He will most likely be an energy guy off the bench if he can make the team out of the NBA Summer League that starts in just about a week.

Since the arrival of Danny Ferry, the NBA Draft has been an exciting moment for Hawks fans. Ferry drafted well with other teams so hopefully his draft picks for the Hawks will pay off in the long run and finally bring a NBA Championship to the City of Atlanta.
