Portland Trail Blazers general manager Neil Olshey met with Spencer Hawes last night to discuss a possible stint in Portland. Hawes is a stretch 5 that would fit perfectly into the Blazers’ offense. Hawes will provide better depth and scoring options off of the bench, as well as being able to give Robin Lopez and LaMarcus Aldridge breaks during the game.

Hawes shoots the three ball extremely well, which is the Blazers best trait. This knack for three-point shooting led the Blazers to one of the most productive and efficient offenses in the NBA. Last season, he played for both the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He averaged more than 40% from the three point line, producing 13.2 points per game. Hawes is also a capable rebounder, as he pulled in 8.3 per game last season.

Both sides seem to be genuinely interested in the deal, as it sets the Blazers up with a better bench, as well as positioning Hawes for a breakout season. Hawes is seeking a contract worth upwards of 8 million per year, which takes the Clippers out of the running for his talents. This leaves Hawes with choices of multiple suitors that include: Blazers, Rockets, Mavericks, and the Cavaliers. A source close to Hawes has stated that he has little interest in re-signing with the Cavs.

Joe Freeman reported that Hawes was in “no rush” to make his decision, despite the early meetings with teams.
