The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a two-year, $2 million deal with costless agent forward Ed Davis, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. Davis’ contract includes a player option after the first season.

Davis played limited minutes for the Memphis Grizzlies last season after being traded from the Toronto Raptors the prior season in the Rudy Gay deal. Davis has career averages of 6.9 points and 4.1 rebounds. He shoots an efficient 54.2 percent from the field.

Davis, 24, is extremely long and athletic. He will be the third power forward on the Lakers roster, meaning he may see the same reduced role that he had in Memphis. Davis can play well in a larger role as he did in Toronto, so the Lakers should try to find some time for the four year pro. With all these power forwards, it seems unlikely that the Lakers will re-sign restricted costless agent, Ryan Kelly.

The Lakers continue to hand out string of one year deals or two year deals with an option attached to it. They want as much as cap space they can have next off-season. Just like last summer, the Los Angeles Lakers are signing young players to a trial season and if they play well, they will return for longer deals in the near future.
