After the Los Angeles Lakers waived Kendall Marshall on Friday, the Milwaukee Bucks will claim him off waivers, reports Marc Stein of ESPN.

The Lakers were planning to re-sign Marshall if he cleared waivers, but the Bucks ice Los Angeles’ plan. Milwaukee has been looking for backcourt depth and passers to run the offense. Marshall will join newly signed Jerryd Bayless in the backcourt off Milwaukee’s bench.

Marshall averaged 8.0 points and 8.8 assists per game in 54 games for the Los Angeles Lakers last season. He was a surprisingly good mid-season pickup for the Lakers due to his ability to effectively pass under Mike D’Antoni’s system.

Marshall also hit 39.9 percent of his three-pointers. However, his complete offensive game still needs some developing. Marshall will become the third point guard on Milwaukee’s roster. He will fight for minutes behind Brandon Knight and Nate Wolters.

Kendall Marshall redeemed himself in the league after a horrific rookie season with the Phoenix Suns. The Bucks are hoping he can play like he did last season for L.A. The Milwaukee Bucks also have had interest in Eric Bledsoe, but they may move forward, unless they pull off a sign-and-trade with Phoenix to acquire him utilizing one of their backcourt players.
