The New York Knicks have announced that they have waived guard Shannon Brown, according to Ian Begley of ESPN.

Brown had a $1.3 million non-guaranteed contract for the 2014-15 NBA season. The Knicks waive him before his contract could become guaranteed.

Brown played 19 games for New York last season, averaging 2.1 points on 7.8 minutes per game. He also played 10 games for the San Antonio Spurs on a couple of 10-day contracts.

The Knicks do not have any use for Brown any more as they are loaded with backcourt depth. In fact, last week, it was reported that the Knicks are seeking a trade for J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert because they have too many guards on the roster.

New York continues to clear cap room to have financial flexibility and roster space for other potential moves.
