In a family battle for the Los Angeles Clippers, Shelly Sterling has come out victorious, beating her husband Donald Sterling in court, which will now allow her to proceed with the sale of the Clippers to Steve Ballmer for $2 billion. Los Angeles Times sports reporter Nathan Fenno was first to break the news.

Shelly Sterling won the case on all three counts, and Judge Michael Levanas rejected all arguments made by Donald Sterling, reports Brad Turner of L.A. Times.

The court ruling has found Donald Sterling mentally incapacitated, which allows Shelly Sterling to become the sole trustee of the Sterling Family Trust. “The doctors certified Donald as incapacitated. That’s the end of the matter,” Shelly’s attorney Pierce O’Donnell said.

With the court case finally being over, Shelly Sterling and Steve Ballmer will move forward with the sale of the team, which is expected to go through by August 15.

I’m just happy it’s over. A great man will be taking over the team now,” Shelly Sterling told reporters after her huge win.

As for Donald Sterling’s attorney Max Blecher, he was awfully disappointed and wants to appeal the decision. “It goes without saying I’m disappointed. We’re comfortable if we get the right to appeal…this decision will not stand.” There might be more drama ahead, but the court seems firm with their decision made today.

The NBA has also released a statement saying, “We are pleased that the court has affirmed Shelly Sterling’s right to sell the Los Angeles Clippers to Steve Ballmer. We look forward to the transaction closing as soon as possible.”

Once he is owner of the team, Ballmer plans to keep the Clippers in Los Angeles. Keeping the team in L.A. was an agreement Ballmer had made with the NBA back in May. Ballmer will also keep the name Clippers for the “foreseeable future,” according to sources.

Doc Rivers and Chris Paul planned to sit out the season if Donald Sterling were to remain the owner of the team, but the Los Angeles Clippers fan base can breathe now as it looks like Steve Ballmer will overthrow Donald Sterling as the new owner of the Clippers.

It was not only a victory for Shelly Sterling, but a victory for the entire NBA world.
