After officially acquiring Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett, and Thaddeus Young, the Minnesota Timberwolves have built themselves a wonderful future. They lost their superstar Kevin Love but did an excellent job of enhancing young talent. If anything, the Timberwolves were the biggest winners from the three-team trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers.

The Timberwolves will now have a core of Ricky Rubio, Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett, Thaddeus Young, and Nikola Pekovic.

The young, flashy point guard Ricky Rubio will be running the offense just as he has before. He is a magnificent passer and ball handler. His floor vision is outstanding, and his creativity is top notch. With long arms and quick hands, Rubio is also a great stealer. He will just need to improve his all-around offensive game. His shooting is subpar as he has shot 36.8% from the field throughout his career but at age 23, Rubio still has plenty of room to improve.

Andrew Wiggins has the potential to be the superstar of this team in a few years. He has incredible athleticism and is a fantastic scorer. The 19-year old has the ability to become a marvelous rebounder and play maker as well. He will certainly be the cornerstone of this organization.

Last season, Anthony Bennett did not see much playing time and was not too effective with the minutes he received. However, this season Bennett is expected to breakout and show his full potential. He is in better shape and form right now and could be the scorer and rebounder he was in college. Bennett is only 21 years of age and has room to improve too.

Thaddeus Young was a huge, last minute addition from the Love deal for the Wolves. He will provide veteran leadership and versatility. As a power forward, Young can stretch the floor, ball handle, and attack and finish around the rim. He has terrific athleticism as well and is an underrated rebounder. He’s been in the league for six-years and has had some playoff experience in Philly. Only 26-years old, Young is the perfect fit for this youthful team.

Nikola Pekovic is coming off a season where he averaged 17.4 points and 8.7 rebounds. With Kevin Love gone, Pekovic is expected to up his rebounding numbers, something that he can very easily do. He will also see more touches in the paint where he could dominate thanks to his bulky figure. On this young team, he could very well average around 20 points and 10 rebounds this upcoming season if he stays healthy.

In addition, the Timberwolves will have Zach LaVine coming off their bench. LaVine needs to polish his offensive game, but there is no denying that he has extreme athleticism. He could be the catalyst to most of Minnesota’s fast break points or Ricky Rubio’s alley-oop plays.

Digging deeper into that bench, Minnesota also has two athletic wing players, Corey Brewer and Chase Budinger. Budinger is coming off an injury riddled season, but he can surely jump out the gym and also provide some three-point shooting. Brewer came on strong last season as he has become one of the best fast breaking players in the league due to his quick run outs.

Then there is Gorgui Dieng, who has great athleticism for a big man and could turn out to be a 10 and 10 guy for the Wolves this season. Dieng averaged 11.9 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in the month of April last season when he started to see more minutes. The potential is there, and he could also become a terrific shot blocker.

Lastly, Minnesota has three veterans, J.J. Barea, Mo Williams, and Kevin Martin. Barea, 30, has won a championship ring with the Dallas Mavericks and has been in the league for 8 years. He is a solid shooter and play maker with lightning speed. Martin, 31, has been around the league for 10 years. He is still one of the best at drawing fouls and knocking down threes. Mo Williams, 31, was the veteran leader on the Portland Trail Blazers last season. He is great to have on and off the court and can mentor some of these young guys while supplying immediate offense off the bench.

Bottom line, the Minnesota Timberwolves are stacked with young, athletic players and have a few experienced veterans to aid them. They have the chance to become a great team in the near future, barring any unexpected setbacks. The potential is lurking off these players.  There is some unique, special talent on this roster, and it is only a matter of time before this team shows its full potential.
