After 13 years in the NBA, Earl Watson will call it quits as he accepts a coaching position with the Austin Toros, San Antonio Spurs D-League affiliate, reports Chris Haynes of the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

Watson, the former second-round pick (40th overall) of the Seattle Super Sonics, was drafted into the NBA in 2001. He has spent time with six different NBA teams throughout his career. He has been with the Sonics, who ultimately became the Oklahoma City Thunder, Memphis Grizzlies, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Utah Jazz, and Portland Trail Blazers.

Watson has career averages of 6.4 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game. He was known around the league for his high basketball I.Q. and veteran guidance.

For having such outstanding basketball knowledge, Earl Watson should have a wonderful coaching career in the D-League and may find himself an NBA coaching position thereafter.

Watson’s retirement has yet to be announced officially, but it should in the coming days.

Congratulations to Earl Watson for an incredible 13-year career and best of luck in the future.
