The Oklahoma City Thunder Forward, Kevin Durant, will be out of action for an unspecified amount of time. He suffered a "Jones" fracture in his right foot. As reported by ESPN.com, the 2013-2014 NBA MVP informed the team of his discomfort after practice. History shows that players who suffered a similar injury were out of action for about six to eight weeks. However, the Oklahoma City Thunder do not want to put a timetable on the injury until their evaluation is thoroughly completed.

For the 2013-2014 NBA season, he averaged 32.0 PTS, 50.3% FG, 39.1% 3P, 87.3% FT, 7.4 RB, 5.5 AST, and 1.3 STL per game (via basketball-reference.com). Last season was also the first time he was awarded the NBA MVP and the fourth time he won the scoring title. He was the first person to win both the scoring title and the NBA MVP award, in the same season since, Allen Iverson won both awards in the 2000-2001 season.

Although, with Kevin Durant out for the beginning of the season, the Oklahoma City Thunder will still be a very competitive team. They will have Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka carrying a heavy load. Russell Westbrook, arguably one of the top point guards today, will definitely be their vocal leader on the court and in the locker room. Last season he averaged 21.8 PTS, 43.7% FG, 82.6% FT, 6.9 AST, and 1.9 STL per game (via basketball-reference.com). Serge Ibaka averaged 15.1 PTS, 53.6% FG, 8.8 RB, and 2.7 BLK per game (via basketball-reference.com). With both Ibaka and Westbrook carrying the scoring load, there's no reason why the Thunder can't start the season strong. Yes, Durant is their superstar leader but, he's the player that keeps them in first place in the Western Conference. Without him they'll probably be one of the top six teams in the west. So, even without Durant, they'll still be a tough team to beat.

With that being said, we wish Kevin Durant a speedy recovery. He's one of the top players in the NBA today and will go down in history as one of the best scorers the NBA has ever seen. We'll miss his Dr. J-esque moves to the basket and his clutch threes at the end of games. Let's just hope he recovers well and grants us the opportunity to witness greatness in the making.
