With the extension deadline looming, Alec Burks and the Utah Jazz have agreed to a four-year, $42 million contract extension. Burks’ deal could reach $45 million with incentives, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
The Jazz had until midnight, Eastern Time, to give Alec Burks this extension. He becomes the seventh player in his draft class to receive an extension behind Kyrie Irving, Kenneth Faried, Nikola Vucevic, Marcus and Markieff Morris, and Kemba Walker.
Alec Burks has been gradually improving each season. He averaged 14.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game last season and is already off to a terrific start this season, averaging 16.5 points in two games. Burks has earned himself a starting position with Utah. He is a young, athletic shooting guard with the ability to score, play make, and drive it to the rim with aggression.
The Utah Jazz have another player who is eligible for a contract extension, and that is Enes Kanter. However, Kanter and the Jazz were unable to reach an agreement, meaning Kanter will become an unrestricted costless agent next summer.
The Jazz have built towards their future with Derrick Favors, Gordon Hayward, Trey Burke, and now Alec Burks.
