In the summer of 2015, one of the big named costless agents that is going to be on the radar of the New York Knicks is Grizzlies center Marc Gasol. At the end of the season, Gasol will become an unrestricted costless agent, and teams will try and make their best pitch to lure Gasol out of Memphis.

The Knicks are believed to make a strong push for Gasol. They have had a busy year as they re-signed superstar Carmelo Anthony at a very high price this offseason and brought in the Zen Master Phil Jackson in March. Later, Jackson hired his former player Derek Fisher as the head coach of the team and added his former assistant coaches to his staff.

This was a solid hiring for the Knicks. Fisher was on the Laker teams when Phil coached the Triangle offense, so Fisher is familiar with the offense and has a lot of experience with it.

The Knicks are expected to go all out this upcoming summer as they will have cap space and will try to make an offer that can bring Gasol to the Big Apple. He is the perfect player for the Knicks, and the offense they are trying to run. The Triangle needs a dominant post player for it to be most successful and with his basketball I.Q. and low post scoring, Gasol makes for a perfect fit.

Gasol also has an elbow jumper, can score in the post, and has a phenomenal basketball mind. Gasol will bring defense to the Knicks, which is something tht they desperately need. He is, after all, a former defensive player of the year and could be the missing piece for the Knicks.

As of right now, Gasol's focus is on the upcoming season, and he is not thinking about costless agency.

"That’s so far down the line that it’s not on my mind . I just want to do my freaking job every day,” Gasol said. “You never know what might happen in seven or eight months. The franchise might go in a different direction. We’re going to see how we all feel in July. All of the talk now won’t change that fact."

Gasol is a proven player, and he will be looking to get paid. Before the Knicks can make an offer, they may need to trade J.R. Smith or Iman Shumpert. At the end of the season, Andrea Bargnani and Amar'e Stoudemire's large contracts will come off the books, which will allow the Knicks to make a max offer to Gasol. Gasol may also be intrigued by the idea of pairing up with his teammate from the Spanish National team, Jose Calderon, and Calderon could play a part in baiting Gasol to New York.

In Memphis, there is chemistry throughout the starting lineup, and we all know chemistry doesn't happen overnight. Despite all the suitors he will have, Memphis will still be frontrunners to sign Gasol. He is comfortable with the role in Memphis, and he knows what is expected of him.

The Grizzlies can begin extension talks with Gasol in December, but with the CBA rules, it can only be for three years, which won't interest Gasol because the Grizzlies can give him five years during costless agency or he can get four years if he deals with another team. Memphis does have an advantage here because it can offer more guaranteed money to Gasol.
