In a summer of indecision surrounding Klay Thompson, various sources from ESPN have reported that the Golden State Warriors and Thompson have finally agreed to a max four-year contract extension worth in the range of $70 million.

After seeing Gordon Hayward get a four year $63 million extension and Chandler Parsons get a three year $46 million extension, it was inevitable that Klay Thompson would seek a similar lucrative contract.

Golden State was initially reluctant to give Thompson the max deal due to the salary cap problem that may arise in the future, but after declining to include him in a trade for Kevin Love this offseason, it was obvious that the team has intended to re-sign Thompson all along. It was just a matter of "how much?"

The contract is well deserved as Klay Thompson has emerged as a rising star and a potential successor to Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade as the next top shooting guard in the world.

Thompson has improved in each of his first three seasons in the league going from 12.5 points per game in his rookie season to 16.6 points per game in his sophomore season, and to 18.4 points per game in his third year last season. He also finished third and second in three-point field goals made in the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons respectively, while his fellow teammate, Stephen Curry, finished first in both of those seasons.

By retaining both Curry and Thompson for the near future, Golden State assured themselves one of the top backcourts in the league and potentially one of the greatest shooting tandems in the history of basketball.
