The Los Angeles Lakers travel north of the border to take on the Toronto Raptors at the Air Canada Centre in game three of their five-game road trip.

The Lakers are off to a 1-1 start to their road trip, with a loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday and a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in overtime on Wednesday.

Jordan Clarkson, who scored 20 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists, hit two clutch free throws with 0.3 left on the clock to aid the Lakers to victory over Minnesota. Jeremy Lin was terrific as well, notching 19 points and five assists.

The Raptors most recently played the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday where they completely lost control of the game in the fourth quarter, getting outscored by Chicago, 39-21. Greivis Vasquez, who has taken over the starting point guard role in place of the injured Kyle Lowry, led the way with 22 points on 6 of 11 shooting from three-point distance. DeMar DeRozan chipped in 20 points but shot poorly from the field, going 7 for 19.

It’s been a while since the Lakers and Raptors have faced off. In fact, the last meeting between the two was late in November when Los Angeles grabbed a seven-point victory in overtime led by Kobe Bryant’s triple-double of 31 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds. In that game, Toronto was without DeRozan, who was nursing a groin injury. Kyle Lowry was the catalyst, putting in 29 points, nine assists, six rebounds, and three steals.

Surely the Raptors would love some revenge on the Lakers, but they may have to do it without their floor general, Lowry. He is currently having tests done on his back by Toronto’s doctors and is considered doubtful to play.

The Raptors have been gutted by Lowry’s injury, losing the last three out of four games. They have gone 4-7 in their last 11 as they are clinging on to the fourth seed in the East. Fortunately for Toronto, they clinched a playoff spot despite losing to the Bulls in their last game, and they are division leaders with a 10 and a half game lead over the Boston Celtics. It’s safe to say that they won’t drop any lower than the fourth seed, with a terrific chance of moving up to third.

For the Lakers, the season has gone down the drain already as they are fighting for lottery positioning. For those on lottery watch, the Lakers are the fourth worst team in the NBA, but they are tied with the Orlando Magic, who own the fifth worst record, in the loss column.

Even without Lowry, the Raptors, who own a respectable 24-13 record at home, shouldn’t have a difficult time trying to rout the Lakers, who possess an 8-27 road record.

The game tips off at 7:30 pm Eastern Standard Time.
