The Los Angeles Lakers have finalized the purchase of a five-acre property in El Segundo for new headquarters located at the corner of Marisposa and Douglas street, according to Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles Times.

The Lakers received preliminary approval from the El Segundo City Council in April, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. They have now obtained a final vote, and the new facility is expected to be ready by spring of 2017.

The new building will include a practice facility, a 750-seat exhibition court, and of course multiple vast offices. The new location is a walking distance away from the current location.

The reason for change is because the current facility, known as the Toyota Sports Center built in 2000, is not spacious enough, as it only has one basketball court and small office spaces. It certainly was time for something modernistic for the Lakers, similar to the Los Angeles Clippers’ facility which possesses two basketball courts, massive offices, and video and weight rooms.

The Lakers’ D-League affiliates, the Los Angeles D-Fenders, will also utilize the new facility once it is complete.
