The Orlando Magic started off free agency very active. They had a meeting just after midnight in Atlanta with all star power forward, Paul Millsap. Word was, the meeting went well and the Magic walked away having offered Millsap a four-year-$80 million max contract. This deal could reshape the Magic and change the course of their rebuild.

Millsap is a very good scorer. The Magic have lacked a legit go to scorer since the departure of Dwight Howard. Guys have proved themselves viable scorers along the way like Arron Afflalo, J.J. Redick, Tobias Harris, and now the tandem of Victor Oladipo and Nikola Vucevic. But none of them have the ability to score multiple ways like Millsap. He can score with his back to the basket, slash to the hoop, or even step out for a mid range jumper. Not only can he score but he plays good defense.

Fitting Millsap into the Magic’s rotation would be easy. Having a good young back court already with Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton is nice but they lack the real ability to shoot. Tobias Harris is nice young piece at the small forward position but who knows where he will be playing next season. If Harris were to leave they could slide Aaron Gordon into his spot at the three making the power forward position available for Millsap. Even if Harris has any offer he accepts matched, Gordon would be a nice piece off the bench. Having Millsap would take the pressure off of Oladipo, Vucevic, and Harris to score the bulk of Orlando’s points. Not only would it relieve them of pressure but the threat he poses and ability to space the floor would open up opportunities for these other guys.

No deal is imminent between the Magic and Millsap because he is said to be still deciding between Orlando and Atlanta. But if he does decide Orlando is where he wants to play, the Magic could be pushing their rebuild aside and contending for a playoff spot next season.
