I’ll be on the court next year,” seven little words coming from Tim Duncan that will bring plenty of joy to San Antonio Spurs fans around the world.

After finishing up his 18th season in the league, many believed Duncan was headed for retirement. But the 39-year-old fundamentalist has decided to rejoin the Spurs for at least one more season.

Despite being 39 years of age, Duncan still produces like he is 29. He nearly averaged a double-double last season, putting up 13.9 points and 9.1 rebounds to go along with 2.0 blocks per game. His 2.0 blocks ranked seventh in the league.

It’s incredible to watch Duncan still produce effectively and go up against other young and elite power forwards night in and night out.

With Duncan on board, the Spurs’ pitch to highly valued free agent power forward LaMarcus Aldridge just became more intriguing. The Spurs met with Aldridge Wednesday afternoon and reportedly impressed the 29-year old with their presentation. Aldridge will make his decision soon, and the Spurs are still considered frontrunners.

The Spurs are also awaiting a decision from their other aging star Manu Ginobili who at age 37 is debating retirement.

For now, Duncan has yet to finalize a deal with San Antonio, but he is not expected to demand big money to allow the team the flexibility to sign key free agents.

With career averages of 19.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.2 blocks coupled with his five championship rings, many All-Star appearances, MVP awards, and many other accolades, Tim Duncan is an NBA legend, and it is an honor to have him back for one more season.
