Wesley Matthews has agreed in principle with the Dallas Mavericks on a four-year deal as reported by David Aldridge of NBA.com.

The Mavericks have been Matthews' preference of destination since the beginning of free agency, and while they have agreed on a four-year deal, the money details won't be released until after Dallas' pursuit of DeAndre Jordan and LaMarcus Aldridge is completed.

This is potentially a huge acquisition for the Dallas Mavericks as it's known that DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews have stated they've wanted to play together and now that seems more plausible.

Wesley Matthews turned down a lucrative four-year, $64 million deal from the Sacramento Kings and cited as his distrust in the Kings front office as the main reason why. While the money details of Matthews' deals with the Mavericks haven't been released, it's reasonable to assume it'll be in the $11 to $13 million per year range.

The Toronto Raptors were also in play for Matthews but ultimately he had questions about their wing position and how he fit into the rotation.

The Dallas Mavericks feel that with their well respected training staff in place, led by Casey Smith who was the lead trainer for Team USA, that they are the right 'fit' for Matthews despite not being able to offer as much money as the Kings.

Dallas was in heavy need of a three and D shooting guard and Wesley Matthews fits the bill even though he's coming off a torn Achilles. The Mavericks believe that they can bring Matthews back to 100 percent and was a big selling pitch in their meeting on Wednesday, July 1st.

The addition of Wesley Matthews is a big plus in the Dallas Mavericks pursuit of DeAndre Jordan and/or LaMarcus Aldridge and a much needed grab in free agency after Tyson Chandler, Monta Ellis, and Al-Farouq Aminu all agreed to new deals with other teams.
