According to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Mavericks are interested in a sign-and-trade with the Lakers for Jeremy Lin.

This isn't surprising, as Lin is one of the few decent guards left in free agency, and the Lakers have a surplus of guards now while the Mavericks have little to no guards after Monta Ellis left for the Indiana Pacers.

With drafting D'Angelo Russell, to signing Lou Williams, to already having Jordan Clarkson, the Lakers are overloaded with having Lin around and they don't need to take on another contract. The Mavs would like a sign-and-trade because they have low cap space, but have decent pieces they could potentially give up for Lin. Lin will likely be dealt for future draft picks.

This is good for the Mavericks. They lost Ellis to the Pacers, and lost Rondo to Sacramento. Their only option is J.J. Barea and it's up in the air on how much Barea can contribute.

Now, this writer isn't big on Lin. Yours truly thought the Lakers grabbing him was a reach of a deal in the first place. Lin made some noise in New York, for a couple of months and got paid because of it. After that he hasn't done a lot.

The Mavericks do need a play-maker. They lost a lot this off-season including Tyson Chandler, Ellis, and Rondo.
