TEL AVIV, ISRAEL -- Maccabi Tel Aviv may have lost David Blatt to the NBA, but now the NBA has lost Jordan Farmar (again) and possibly Gal Mekel to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The Israeli powerhouse that won the Euroleague in 2014-2015 and has won it a total of six times signed Farmar midday Monday to a one-year deal for the 2015-2016 season. The 28 year-old point guard played for Maccabi in 2011, but has spent the majority of his career playing in America.

Farmar is a two-time NBA Championship winner, as he made it to the Finals with the Lakers in the late 2000s decade and won titles in 2009 and 2010. He was drafted by his hometown Lakers in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft, and also spent time playing for the New Jersey Nets and Los Angeles Clippers, his other hometown side with whom he spent the 2014-2015 season.

The once elite-considered UCLA product scored 4.9 points per game and dropped 1.9 dimes for the Clippers last season, while finishing with a career-high free throw percentage of 90.9%.

Gal Mekel has received an offer from Maccabi Tel Aviv, and says he will accept it if he does not draw NBA attention by July 10th. Mekel wants to play in the NBA, but after spending 2015 playing in Russia, is unlikely to get an immediate offer to return to the association.

Mekel started his career for Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2008, playing with the club until 2010, but then was signed by the Dallas Mavericks for the 2013-2014 season, for whom he appeared 31 times, starting once. He finished the season with 2.4 points and 2.0 assists per game.

New Orleans signed Mekel in 2014, but waived him after only four appearances in which the 27 year-old Israeli guard averaged 1.5 points and 3.3 assists per contest.

Maccabi Tel Aviv lost in the Euroleague semifinal in 2014-2015, making it the first season in 22 years that the team did not reach the final. After beating Real Madrid (the basketball side) in the 2013-2014 final, the team received lots of hate and anti-Semitism, but was also positively in the news, so much so that coach David Blatt drew NBA attention and was hired as the new Cavaliers head coach.

Blatt had his share of controversy in Cleveland, but led his team to an NBA Finals appearance this past season against the Golden State Warriors, who ended up lifting the trophy. Guy Goodes is the new head coach for Tel Aviv.

Maccabi Tel Aviv also plays in the Israeli Premier League. Lots of players have left the team over the past few seasons, and now the front offices is looking to bring back their trusty players. Most of the squad is Israeli, but there are three non-affiliated Americans on the current roster as well.
