Charlie Villanueva and the Dallas Mavericks have reportedly agreed to a one-year, veteran's minimum deal which is in the range of $1.4-1.5 million, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

This deal won't be on the front pages of newspapers, but it is an important deal for the Mavericks because of the veteran leadership Villanueva brings to the table. At 6'11", he is also a dependable shooter from three-point range, which is coveted in today's game.

Last season for the Mavericks, Villanueva averaged 6.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in just 10.6 minutes per game. For the Mavs, depth at the power forward position is key with Dirk Nowitzki playing less and less each season.

The Mavericks already have made one of the biggest splashes in free agency with the signing of DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews. Losing Monta Ellis to Indiana isn't as bad as it once looked. Along with the Spurs, the Mavericks have had arguably the most productive off-season in the NBA.

One position they still need to address is point guard. Rajon Rondo signed with the Sacramento Kings, and even though they were able to re-sign JJ Barea, he isn't a starting point guard in the NBA. There have been rumors surrounding this subject that the Mavericks may try to sign Jeremy Lin, or possibly trade for Denver's Ty Lawson.

Owner Mark Cuban is determined to bring another championship back to Dallas, and he has shown that he will do just about anything to do so. Signing Villanueva at such a cheap price will play a big factor in both having a veteran in the locker room and being able to sign other free agents. Free agency is far from over, so it will be interesting to see what Cuban does with the absence of a starting point guard. Don't expect him to wait too long before addressing it.
