The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to re-sign guard Matthew Dellavedova for the one year qualifying offer worth approximately $1.2 million. Dellavedova was a restricted free agent this summer and will be a restricted free agent again next summer when the league's salary cap is set to increase. A source told ESPN of Marc Stein that Dellavedova wanted to get his contract situation resolved before playing for his home country of Australia in the FIBA Oceania Championship next month.

The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 4.8 points, 3.0 assists, and shot 36 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from three-point range in 67 games played and 13 games started last season for the Cavs.

Matthew Dellavedova was a key contributor in the NBA Finals when he stepped into the starting lineup for Kyrie Irving who was out with a knee injury. In Game 2 of the Finals, Dellavedova contained Stephen Curry and forced him to shoot just 5 of 23 from the field and 2 of 15 from three-point range to help lead the Cavs to an impressive victory. Dellavedova also scored 20 points in Game 3 of the NBA Finals to aid his team to a 2-1 series lead. However, he had ups and downs last season, but he stepped up big time when Cleveland needed him most.

Dellavedova will enter his third season in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he played college for four years at Saint Mary's. Dellavedova was undrafted in 2013, but his ability to play with tremendous energy and toughness on the defensive end kept him in the NBA. He is also a very good catch-and-shoot player from beyond the arc.

Dellavedova is likely going to be the third string point guard for the Cavaliers this upcoming season behind Mo Williams and Irving. But Mo Williams will likely see some time at shooting guard according to ESPN, allowing Dellavedova to earn some minutes. When Kyrie Irving is out of the lineup for the Cavs, it would help them to have Mo Williams and Matthew Dellavedova as their two point guards coming off the bench, unlike last season when Dellavedova was the only true point guard during the Finals when Kyrie Irving was out of the lineup.

Dellavedova signing with the Cavaliers follows Cleveland's offseason tasks of bringing back their squad, as they have already retained LeBron James, Kevin Love, and James Jones. The Cavaliers are still in talks with Tristan Thompson and J.R. Smith and are likely to re-sign them both very soon.
