The Detroit Pistons have their backup point guard.

Detroit has agreed to a three-year deal with Ish Smith, according to David Mayo of MLive. He will backup starting point guard Reggie Jackson. Smith will get $18 million in his three-year contract with the Pistons, according to Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer

"I love Ish Smith from Philly. I love him. He's my guy," Marcus Morris said on Thursday after watching summer-league practice. "I played with him in Phoenix, you know what I'm saying? Might be the best backup point guard in the league, in my opinion. If we get him, I think we definitely make our team a lot better, on the court and off the court. He's a great teammate, great dude. Me, personally, that's who I like."

Smith and Jackson played on the same team with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2014-15 season. Both players were backing up Russell Westbrook and were traded in deals on February 19, 2015. Smith made just $1.1 million last season.

The 27-year-old has played for the Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies, Milwaukee Bucks, New Orleans Pelicans, Houston Rockets, Thunder, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns and Philadelphia 76ers. Smith has been in the league for six years and has logged time with nine different NBA teams. Detroit will be his 10th team.

Of his 323 games in the NBA, Smith has started 75 games. He averages 5.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists across his career. During 50 games (50 starts) in 2015-16 with the 76ers, Smith averaged 14.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 7.0 assists.

Now, Philadelphia really needs to get a point guard.

The Pistons entered free agency with $21 million in cap space and were looking for a backup point guard and power forward in free agency.

"Don't be suprised when the Pistons pursue free agent power forward Thomas Robinson," David Mayo of MLive said. "They are looking for two bigs. He could be one."

The deal can't be officially signed until a leaguewide moratorium on signings and trades is lifted July 7, but sources said any outstanding minor details would be wrapped up later Friday.
