Jalen Coleman has announced that he will attend the University of Illinois and play basketball for the Fighting Illini next season. Coleman made his announcement on Twitter on Tuesday.

Coleman is the No. 34 ranked player in the ESPN 100 and will bring his sweet shooting touch to coach John Groce and the Illini.

The Indiana native was also considering UNLV and Notre Dame. After making official visits to all three schools, Coleman chose Illinois, citing his strong relationship with Groce as a factor in his decision.

I’ve been knowing the coaching staff ever since I was in eighth grade, so I felt comfortable with the coaching staff,” said Coleman of his decision. “Also I was able to see how I fit in their system, and that really helped out. I know they are going to work with me on the court with how they set different screens, and how I can space the floor. They walked me through a few things, and also I got to see the campus and the school. Every question I had, they answered.”

The 6-2 guard will showcase his talents with the Big 10 Illini. Last season Coleman averaged 14.6 points per game while hitting 46 percent of his three-point attempts.

He joins newcomers Aaron Jordan and D.J. Williams in what is touted as a fine class of 2015 for Illinois.
