The San Diego Toreros opened the season on Friday evening, playing in the LMU Classic against Boise State. Despite 25 points from senior star Johnny Dee, the Toreros dropped their opening game of the 2014/15 season to the Broncos, 81-75.

USD led for much of the first half, and a Dee layup gave USD a 28-23 lead with just under five minutes in the half. Boise State went on a late run at the end of the first half to take a two point led into the locker room.

Boise State was led by guard Anthony Drmic, who finished the game with 21 points. Drmic made a three at the eleven minute mark in the second half to put Boise State up by seven. The Toreros were unable to further close the gap.

The aforementioned Dee had a game-high of 25 points, which included 4-for-9 on three point shots. Christopher Anderson had 14 points and seven assists and forward Thomas Jacobs contributed with 10 points as well.

Each team attempted 44 costless throws a piece in a game that never gained a consistent flow.

Boise State, who was picked to finish second in the Mountain West, were led by Drmic’s 21. Mikey Thompson and David Wacker had 12 a piece.

The Toreros will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against Southeast Missouri, while the Broncos play the host Loyola Marymount.
