For the first time this season, Stanford has lost at the Maples Pavilion. They were taken down by the seventh ranked Arizona Wildcats by a final score of 89-82. In the previous game, the Cardinal handled the defending national champions, UCONN, with great ease as they controlled every part of the game. However, this Huskie team is miles behind the squad that won the national championship a season ago.

Tonight was a completely different story. Stanford came up against an Arizona team that steamrolled the then #8 Utah Utes at home and continued their winning streak up in the Bay Area. Stanley Johnson was named the PAC12 player of the week last week and quietly put up 19 points, leading the Wildcats. Followed closely behind was Brand Ashley, who finished the night with 17 points, shooting five of seven from the field and drained a huge three pointer from the right corner late in the contest.

The big story of the game though, was the sheer amount of fouls that were called in the game. It seemed like every single player was in foul trouble tonight, and, well, they basically were. Stefan Nastic, Anthony Brown, Rosco Allen, Marcus Allen, and Michael Humphrey all had four fouls to their name for Stanford. This caused them to go deeper into their bench than they normally do. Add that with the fact that Chasson Randle was held scoreless for a majority of the second half, after he scored an amazing 16 points in the first 20 minutes. Randle was still able to score a game high, 26, making just seven of his 18 attempts from the field, but drilling all ten of his shots from the charity strike.

After losing to Oregon State on the road, Arizona has responded with a fire that had been missing for a majority of the season. Especially when Matt Korcheck came into the game after all three Wildcat big men got into deep foul trouble. Korcheck may have only scored four points, including one huge dunk that took the air out of the arena, but it was his hustle and ferocity on the defensive end of the ball that was most impressive.

Arizona will continue their Bay Area trip this weekend and take on a Cal, a team who has been struggling lately in conference play, on Saturday evening. Meanwhile, Stanford will host Arizona State and will look to get back to their winning ways in just two days time.
