When the pre-season predictions were made, everybody had thought that Harvard was going to run away with the Ivy League. However, James Jones had other plans as his Bulldogs continued their winning ways with 59-63 victory over Columbia.

Justin Sears had a spectacular performance against the Lions last night putting up a season-high 28 points, while going 10 of 16 from the field and making eight out of his 12 attempts at the charity strike. Sears also hauled down eight rebounds, five on the offensive glass, and blocked three shots. His biggest block of the game came when there was just six second left to go as he got a hand on Maodo Lo’s three pointer that could have potentially tied the game.

Jeff Coby, Steve Frankoski and Maodo Lo all made three pointers late in the second half to bring the Lions within one point of Yale with a little over three and a half minutes remaining. Columbia could not take advantage of the momentum shift as they went three minutes without scoring with a couple of free throws in that span to put this game out of reach.

The German-born guard, Maodo Lo, was very impressive for Columbia last night as he finished the night with a team leading twenty points, making six out of his eight attempts from beyond the three point line. Only Lo and Kyle Castlin scored double digits for the Lions, which frankly is not going to cut it as they need to get more production from someone else to help carry the load if they want to make a statement in league play.

The Bulldogs will take to the road again as they play Cornell on Saturday evening with Columbia looking to rebound quickly as they host Brown the same night.
