One day after the Chris Jones suspension, Louisville had to go play at Georgia Tech in a big game for many reasons. This game would show if the Cardinals could handle the loss of a great player and bounce back quickly before March. The Yellow Jackets put up a lot of fight and gave UofL all they could handle. As a result of a crazy game, the Cardinals still came out on top.

It was an incredibly ugly first half for both teams. The Cardinals looked to lose another game after only scoring 3 points in their final 13 possessions of the half. The final eight minutes were all Georgia Tech as they blocked, scored, and looked like the better team. There was even a moment when Rozier had a wide open lay up until a GT player came up and swatted it out of bounds. Georgia Tech did a great job containing Montrezl Harrell in the paint. He got no easy baskets and looked uncomfortable the entire game. This game was not over yet by a long shot.

Louisville looked out of the game until Terry Rozier hit back-to-back threes, after Louisville hadn’t hit a single one the entire night. That shot sparked the Cardinals in their comeback hopes. Louisville went on a 24-10 run quickly to gain the victory. There was a play when Harrell missed an easy layup, but Louisville got their own miss, and failed to score it a few more times, but still kept the ball until passing it out to Blackshear for a wide open three.

Rozier scored the two clutch baskets for Louisville on both layups. Onuaku eventually clinched the game with a block on a shot that could’ve tied it up.

“I wanted Rozier to bring it back out,” Pitino said. “But there was no stopping him at that point. He was going.”

Final Score: Louisville 52 Georgia Tech 51

Fun Fact: In the past three games in Atlanta Louisville has been down by 13 in every single game and made a comeback to win it (Wichita State, Michigan, Georgia Tech).

“Hopefully we can get to the ACC tournament and the chips start falling our way,” said Charles Mitchell.

Game Notes: Terry Rozier had 22 points and 3 rebounds. Wayne Blackshear had 10 points and 8 rebounds. Montrezl Harrell had 8 points and 8 rebounds. Shaqquan Aaron started in place of Chris Jones to score 2 points. Quentin Snider came off the bench for 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Marcus Georges-Hunt had 13 points, 6 turnovers, and 5 rebounds. Demarco Cox had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Charles Mitchell had 6 points and 14 rebounds. “I’m as proud of this basketball team as any game I’ve ever coached,” Pitino said.
