Brenda Frese and company look to regroup after an amazing first year in the Big Ten going 18-0 in conference play and winning both the regular season title and conference tournament. With the return of everyone except Laurin Mincy, the Terrapins will defiantly be in good hands. Though the return of majority of the players is a plus, the departure of longtime assistants Tina Langley and Marlin Chinn definitely hurts. Langley accepted the head coaching position at Rice and Chinn accepted the head coaching position at Florida International University (FIU). Now with a little over 6 months left until the season begins here is all the info you need to know about the 2015-16 Terrapin squad.

First and foremost, we can’t talk about the Maryland Terrapins without mentioning the 2015 coach of the year, Brenda Frese. Frese is entering her 14th year as the head coach with Maryland, over the years she has accumulated a record of 340-104, and she led the Terps to a National Championship in 2006. However, Maryland hasn’t returned to the championship game since 06’ sparking questions as to whether or not they have what it takes to reclaim the title, but with this year’s team it shouldn’t be a question with the incoming McDonalds All-Americans in Kiah Gillespie and Brianna Fraser and the return of Brionna Jones, Lexi Brown and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough this Terps team will most defiantly be cutting down the net in early April.

Additions:

Brianna Fraser

Height: 6’3” Position: Forward

High School: South Shore Victory Collegiate HS, NY Hometown: Brooklyn, NY

Statistics: PPG: 18.0 RBG: 10.0 BPG: 5.0

Fraser is an athletic post player with a terrific interior game. With an explosive first step, she can keep defenders off balance and get open in the scoring area. At the rim, Fraser’s height and athleticism allows her to elevate and finish with both hands over defenders.

Kiah Gillespie

Height: 6’1” Position: Forward

High School: The Capital Prepatory Magnet School, CT Hometown: Meriden, CT

Statistics: PPG: 30.2 RPG: 15.5 APG: 3.2

Gillespie is an elite scorer and rebounder with a solid inside game. She uses her 6’1” frame to her advantage in the low post where she can finish in traffic and create space to get rebounds. Agile with terrific footwork, Gillespie can run the floor on the fast break and establish great position on the block. Gillespie is also disruptive on defense where she excels at altering and blocking opponents’ shots.

Departures:

Laurin Mincy

Height: 6’0” Position: Guard

High School: University High School, NJ Hometown: Newark, NJ

Frese on Mincy: “When you think back to some of our big wins in recent years, it seems like in so many of them, Laurin really played a part. When she’s healthy, she is a difference maker for us. She’s been through so much adversity, that we all really want her to go out with a terrific senior season. She can score in a variety of ways and get to the free throw line, which is what great scorers can do”
