Marques Bolden has finally made his announcement on where he’ll be going to school. After the long-awaited decision, Bolden announced that he’ll be attending Duke University, solidifying the Blue Devils with the number one recruiting class for the Class of 2016. In ESPN’s Top 100, Bolden was the number 16 recruit and the number two center behind the number 15 recruit, Jarrett Allen. Allen has yet to make a decision on where he will be going to school.
The Rich Get Richer
In addition to Bolden, Duke also announced the signing of Jack White from Australia. It’s been known for sometime now that White was headed to Duke, but now it’s official. Coach Mike Krzyzewski is impressed with White and his high level of play at the international stage.
Bolden and White already add to a phenomenal Duke roster including returning players Amile Jefferson, Grayson Allen, Matt Jones, Luke Kennard, and Chase Jeter. The incoming class, including Bolden and White, are number one and three recruits Harry Giles and Jayson Tatum, the number 10 recruit Frank Jackson, and four-star recruit Javin DeLaurier.
Kentucky Misses Out
Bolden was down to two schools when making his decision, Duke and the Kentucky Wildcats. These two blue-blood programs have been going at it lately with their recruiting tactics over Class of 2017 star Hamidou Diallo. Diallo said about Kentucky that their pitch was getting players ready for the next level. Diallo then said about Duke that their approach was that if you pick Duke, you’re set for life.
Kentucky head coach John Calipari made comments in his blog post that many thought were directed at Duke, but he later said that they were not. In the post, Calipari talked about a proverb he became fond of, “Our approach is to give (recruits) the fishing rod and the lures to help them catch fish, not to just give you the fish.” That prompted Duke to tweet this picture below until it was then taken down.
