An already inexperienced cornerback unit got even less experienced after the season long suspension of Titus Howard. Pittsburgh head coach Paul Chryst made the announcement on Friday.

It is unclear what prompted the season long suspension, but there is a silver lining for Howard. He will remain with the program and be able to practice throughout the season.

Howard was expected to be a starter this season after starting 2 games, playing in 11, and recording 21 tackles in 2013. Trenton Coles will have a chance to take over in Howard's absence. Coles played in 11 games in 2013 and recorded 9 tackles. He has great speed, as evidenced by his 100 and 200 meter track championships in high school.

The rest of the backups do not have any game experience. At the other cornerback spot will be Lafayette Pitts. He started all 13 games in 2013 and finished the season with 35 tackles, 9 pass breakups, and 1 interception.

Pittsburgh starts the season on August 30 against the FCS opponent Delaware.
