On Tuesday, Oregon State head coach Mike Riley announced the suspension of linebacker Darrell Songy for the entire 2014 season. The reason given was because Songy "violating athletic department rules," Riley stated.

Riley went on to say, "Life is all about choices and how they can change your life in the blink of an eye. That's what's happened."

Songy was not a starter, but he brought high amounts of energy to the team. In addition, Songy has been very vocal and supportive of his teammates on the field. Songy was on the two-deep roster and expected to see more playing time at one of the outside linebacker slots

Songy appeared in 12 games last year with most of those appearances on special teams. He finished 2013 with 12 tackles. Songy was only one of three true freshmen to play for the Beavers last season.

Junior college transfer Kyle Haley is expected to take Songy's place on the two-deep and will see more playing time. Haley went to Golden West College last year and finished the season with 56 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 1 interception.
