Air Force used 7 turnovers by Boise State to shock the Broncos 28-14 on Saturday night. The Falcons led 28-0 with 11:35 left in the fourth quarter and hung on from there.

The turnovers started early for the Broncos. Their first drive ended when Grant Hedrick threw his first of four interceptions to Weston Steelhammer. Though Air Force did not score any points, the Broncos offense was the gift that kept on giving.

Jay Ajayi's second touch of the game was a fumble that was recovered by Troy Timmerman. That would be turned into a touchdown three plays later when Kale Pearson hit Garrett Brown for the score from 4 yards out. It would get better for Air Force and worse for Boise State.

Boise State forced a punt on the Falcons' next drive. Shane Williams-Rhodes returned the punt 37 yards to the Air Force 15 yard line. But Hedrick's pass on the following play was undercut by Steelhammer for his second interception of the game. Again, Air Force did not score any points off the turnover, but it was the fact that Air Force was constantly causing problems.

Air Force's defense stopped Boise State on a fourth and six at the Air Force 34 yard line. They turned that missed opportunity into a touchdown. Kale Pearson ran in from 5 yards out to take a 14-0. Air Forced added a 25 yard field goal from Will Conant at the end of the first half to make it 17-0 at the break.

Boise State picked up right where they left off to start the second half. Grant Hedrick threw his third interception of the game when Gavin McHenry picked him off. Air Force did nothing with the ball again, but Boise State was still in the giving mood.

On the Broncos next drive, Hedrick hit Ajayi for a small gain, but Ajayi fumbled again and it was forced and recovered by Connor Healy. Still, Air Force could not get any points off turnover as they punted the ball back.

Boise State had a chance to get points on the board with their next drive, but Dan Goodale had his 46 yard field goal blocked and Air Force was hitting on all cylinders.

Boise State's next drive led to yet another turnover. Hedrick was intercepted by Jordan Pierce who rumbled all the way back to the Boise State 9 yard line to give Air Force a great chance to score again. They would only get a 21 yard field goal from Conant, but it put them up 20-0.

Hedrick's fourth interception of the game made way for Ryan Finley to get some reps. Finley led the Broncos to the Falcons' 19 yard line, but they were unable to complete a fourth down pass and gave the ball back to Air Force. It did not take long for Air Force to extend their lead to 4 touchdowns. Air Force went 81 yards on 5 plays in only 1:29 to make it 28-0. Kale Pearson had 48 yards rushing on the drive while Jacobi Owens had the remaining 33 yards and the touchdown from 10 yards out. Pearson hit Garrett Brown on the 2 point conversion.

The Broncos added a seemingly meaningless touchdown with Finley's two yard pass to Alec Dhaenens to make it 28-7. However, things got interesting when Owens fumbled the ball on his own 39 yard line and Boise State recovered. Finley then hit Shane Williams-Rhodes on an acrobatic diving finish for the 10 yard score to make it 28-14 and a nervy ending.

After a punt by Air Force, Boise State was unable to convert the nearly impossible fourth and 23 to give Air Force the ball back. Owens stayed in bounds on the next play, but the ball came loose and it was recovered by the Broncos once again.

The last gasp by Finley was picked off by Steelhammer for his third interception of the game.

Grant Hedrick went 18 of 33 for 209 yards and the four interceptions. Ryan Finley went 12 of 25 for 161 yards with 2 scores and an interception.

Jay Ajayi ran for 63 yards on 17 carries, but had the two costly fumbles lost. Ajayi also caught 5 passes for 58 yards. Thomas Sperbeck caught 6 passes for 79 yards while Jake Roh had 3 catches for 72 yards.

Air Force was not as focused on their passing game as they had been in previous games this season. Kale Pearson finished 5 of 11 for 48 yards and 1 touchdown. Pearson's biggest impact was on the ground where he gobbled up 127 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Jacobi Owens ran for 108 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, but had two big fumbles in the fourth quarter.

Garrett Brown had 3 catches for 28 yards and a touchdown as the Falcons' leading receiver.

Boise State (3-2, 1-1) faces Nevada next week on the road. It will be interesting to see whether Hedrick or Finley is behind center for that game. Air Force (3-1, 1-1) begins their quest for the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy next week with a home date against Navy (2-3).
