The Oklahoma Sooners were looking to salvage their season on Saturday in Ames, Iowa, against the Iowa State Cyclones. The Sooners were coming off a disappointing loss to Kansas State two weeks ago, their second of the season. A team with playoff aspirations at the beginning of the season, is now just looking to get to ten wins.

The Sooners got started quickly and never looked back in their 59-14 win over the Cyclones.

Oklahoma needed just two plays to find the end zone on their first possession. After a 46 yard pass to Sterling Shepard, Trevor Knight scored on a 31-yard run to put OU on top. Shepard would miss the rest of the game due to injury on his reception.

Knight was forced to find other receivers and managed to do that pretty well. He found three different receivers on way to scoring a touchdown. K.J. Young would catch his first touchdown as a Sooner to put OU on top 14-0 with plenty of time still remaining in the first quarter.

Oklahoma continued to dominate the first quarter with another touchdown from Knight. This time he would find former quarterback Blake Bell from five yards out, and the Sooners were in control with a 21-0 lead heading into the second.

Iowa State had one of their best offensive possessions of the day at  the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second. Quarterback Sam Richardson capped off an 11-play 75-yard drive with an 18-yard touchdown run after a converting a long third down.

Helped by a long Alex Ross run, Semaje Perine would carry five straight times, finishing with a touchdown run from seven yards out.

Up 28-7 Oklahoma kept their foot on the throttle. Alex Ross contributed with another long run, this one being 36 yards, and OU would strike again. Knight scored with his legs for the second time of the game to give Sooners a four touchdown lead going into the locker room.

The second half would turn out pretty much the same as the first. Oklahoma kicker Michael Hunnicutt bounced back from a poor performance against Kansas State by making a 44-yard field goal to extend Oklahoma's lead.

The Sooners would score again on their next possession. First, Knight found freshman wide receiver Michiah Quick for a 5-yard gain on third down to keep the drive alive. He would then find Bell for their second touchdown connection to continue their dominating performance.

The Cyclones would answer with their quickest drive of the game. They needed just two plays as Richardson found D'vario Montgomery for the 59-yard touchdown.

The Cyclones then forced a Sooners' punt, but they would turn the ball over in their own territory after Charles Tapper sacked Richardson to force a fumble. Linebacker Jordan Evans recovered deep in Cyclone territory. OU would need just two plays to take advantage of the turnover. Knight finished the drive with his third scoring touchdown of the night, as well as his sixth total touchdown. Going into the fourth OU led 52-14.

With the backups in the game Oklahoma managed one more touchdown in the final quarter. Going deep in the depth chart, OU running back David Smith would have the last score of the game to make the final 59-14.

The Sooners bounced back in a big way and seemed to take out some frustration on the Cyclones. They dominated on both sides of the ball in this one.

Offensively, Oklahoma outgained Iowa State 751-334. The Sooners were led by ther ground game with 510 yards compared to just 87 from the Cyclones. Iowa State did have more passing yards, thrwoing for 247 to OU's 241.

Knight seemed finally have costless reign of the offense, he hurt the opposing defense with both his arm and legs. Overall, he finished 22-of-35 passing for 230 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran the ball ran the ball for 146 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries.

Also contributing in the run game were Ross and Perine. Ross had his best game rushing with 144 yards on 14 carries. Perine would be the third player over a hundred yards rushing with 110 yards of his own plus a touchdown. Smith added 76 yards and a touchdown in garbage time.

Other receivers had to step up without Shepard in the game. Durron Neal filled in nicely with 60 yards on five receptions. Quick added eight catches, and Bell chipped in with two touchdown receptions.

The day was a constant struggle for Iowa State's offense. Sam Richardson finished 15-of-40 passing for 239 yards and a touchdown. Montgomery was the main beneficiary with 3 catches for 88 yards and a touchdown.

The running game was nonexistent for the most part in the game. Tyler Brown was the leading rusher with 48 yards.

For Oklahoma, this game is a nice confidence boost going into next week. The Sooners return home for a matchup against the Baylor Bears. The game had much higher expectations a the beginning of the season, but losses by bother teams have tampered those expectations quite a bit.

Iowa State will look to secure their first conference win against Kansas in a battle of two bottom dwellers.
