Let us know your thoughts about today’s game Mississippi - Alabama in the comments section below.

Mississippi State vs Alabama since 2007 and has not won in Tuscaloosa since 2006. In fact, Mississippi State has only beaten Alabama seven times since 1958, in a series that they play in every year.

Alabama’s most important players though will be running backs T.J. Yeldon and Derrick Henry. They have combined for 246 carries this season and will need to keep the ball and clock moving. Keeping the potent Bulldog offense of the field may be the difference between winning and losing.

The playmaker that Mississippi State will need to shutdown is junior wide receiver Amari Cooper. Cooper has 79 catches for 1,215 yards and 10 touchdowns. Those totals are over half of the total stats from Alabama quarterbacks this year.

The biggest play of that game was a 22 yard completion to Christion Jones from Blake Sims for a first down on a third and eight. That moved the ball to the 26 yard line and in closer to Adam Griffith’s field goal range. Griffith would send the game to overtime three plays later.

Alabama is looking for their second consecutive win over a ranked opponent after beating LSU in Death Valley last weekend 20-13 in a thrilling overtime game.

Their offense is not half bad either gaining 487.3 yards of offense this season. They rely a little more on the pass at 281.2 yards per game than the run at 206.1 yards per game.

Alabama comes into the game with the fourth best offense due to yardage totals allowing just 275 yards per game. Their bread and butter has been the run defense allowing opponents only 89.8 yards per game on the ground. That is good for third in the country.

If the Mississippi State offense is the unstoppable force, then Alabama’s defense is the immovable object.

Those solid numbers in the run and pass game combine to give Mississippi State the 6th best offense in the country behind only Baylor, Marshall, East Carolina, TCU, and Oregon.

The combination of Prescott and Robinson have done great things for Mississippi State this season pacing a rushing attack that is ranked 16th in the country averaging 254.9 yards per game. That is almost better than their passing attack at 267.2 yards per game.

Mississippi State’s other beast in the backfield is junior Josh Robinson who is only 16 yards away from surpassing the 1,000 yard mark on the season. He has also rushed for 11 touchdowns on the year. His running stats in conference are very impressive with 94 carries for 663 yards and eight touchdowns.

1:42 PM ET: The other quarterbacks with 11 rushing touchdowns are Keenan Reynolds of Navy, Kevin Ellison of Georgia Southern, and Nick Marshall of Auburn.

His ability to find the end zone both through the air and on the ground have been very impressive this season. He has thrown for 18 passing touchdowns and run for 11 touchdowns on the ground. The 11 rushing touchdowns ties him for 16th overall, as well for 1st among quarterbacks.

His quarterback play has been very consistent throwing for between 201 and 284 yards in eight of nine games so far this season. The lone exception coming two weeks ago in their scare against Arkansas. Prescott threw for 331 yards in that 17-10 win.

The Bulldogs are led by Heisman Trophy candidate junior quarterback Dak Prescott. The native of Haughton, Louisiana is a dual-threat QB who is also the second leading rusher on the team.

Mississippi State comes into today’s game off a 45-16 victory last week over FCS school Tennessee-Martin. Usually that type of scheduling is something you will see in the SEC as teams look to play a weakened side in the weekend before a big game in order to a) get the team some momentum going into the bigger game and b) play the starters for only a half in an effort to reduce injury.
