The next big college football upset has happened and this one was down in Gainesville. In a battle between two Top 25 teams, the third-ranked Ole Miss Rebels hit the road and played the twenty-fifth ranked Florida Gators. Florida hit the ground running and did not look back the entire game.

In the first quarter, Gators quarterback Will Grier got things started early by finding wideout Demarcus Robinson for a 36 yard touchdown pass to put the Gators on the scoreboard first with a 7-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, the Gators got on the board again, with Grier finding wideout Jack McGee, but kicker Jorge Powell missed the point after attempt, and the Gators were up 13-0 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Grier was showing himself off again with a 77 yard touchdown pass to his third different wideout with a receiving touchdown, Brandon Powell, which was followed up by a failed two point conversion, putting Florida up 19-0 with plenty of time left in the second quarter. The Gators struck one more time before the half, with Grier finding Antonio Calloway, the fourth receiver with a touchdown before the half, for a 15 yard touchdown pass being followed by another failed two point conversion. The Gators led the Rebels 25-0 going into the half in a blowout that nobody saw coming.

In the third quarter, the Gators offense died down and the only scoring came from the Rebels on a field goal. Kicker Gary Wunderlich converted on a 22 yard field goal after Mississippi, on the one yard line on 1st and 10, couldn’t get a touchdown after three rushing attempts from the goal line, but Ole Miss was finally on the board however still down 25-3.

In the fourth quarter, Florida’s offense was relentless and still striking. Jorge Powell converted on two field goals early in the quarter, a 31-yarder and a 22-yarder, which ultimately put the Gators up 31-3. On the ensuing drive following the 22-yard field goal, Florida sacked Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly, forcing him to fumble the ball and Florida recovered it on the Ole Miss one yard line. On the first play following the fumble, running back Jordan Cronkrite got the ball and punched it in the endzone from the one yard line, putting Florida up 38-3. Ole Miss did get another score but it was too little too late. Kelly found wideout Markell Pack for a seven yard touchdown pass but Ole Miss was still down 38-10 and that would be all she wrote from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium as Florida completed a huge upset to put them back on the national radar.

Will Grier had a huge game for the Gators, throwing for 271 yards, four touchdowns, and only threw five incompletions the entire game. All four of his touchdown passes were to different receivers, showing how well he could utilize all of his weapons on the field and dismantle the third best team in the nation.

Ole Miss struggled all game, especially with retaining the ball as they turned it over four times and struggled to finish drives, despite having almost two times as many first downs as Florida did. Plus, none of their running backs had more than 40 yards while Chad Kelly struggled to complete his passes.

Florida is now 5-0 on the season and will travel to Missouri as potentially a top 15 team in the nation. As for Ole Miss, they are now 4-1 and will be lower in the rankings as they look to rebound against New Mexico State at home.
