The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have lost 24-22 to the Clemson Tigers thanks to a head scratching call to run the football on the 2 point conversion attempt by Brian Kelly after Notre Dame engineered a miraculous comeback. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish fall to 4-1 on the season, while the Clemson Tigers improve to 4-0 on the season. The game was played in horrible weather all night, as a result of Hurricane Joaquin hitting the Carolinas right now.

The Clemson Tigers got on the board quickly into the game, when Deshaun Watson passed it to Jordan Leggett for the 6 yard TD to put Clemson up 7-0 with 12:19 left in the first quarter. Only a few minutes later with 8:43 left Clemson doubled their lead to get out to the quick and commanding 14-0 lead when Deshaun Watson threw it Artavis Scott for the 13 yard touchdown. Notre Dame also got on the board in the first when with 5:32 Justin Yoon would nail a 46 yard field goal to make it a 14-3 game. Going into to halftime Notre Dame would stay down 14-3.

Clemson would add another touchdown with 14:14 left in the 3rd quarter when Deshaun Watson ran it in from 21 yards out to make it a 21-3 game.  Notre Dame’s comeback attempt would start in the 4th quarter when with 14:13 left CJ Prosise caught the pass from Deshone Kiser and ran it for 50 yards to make it a 21-9 game. Kiser threw the ball to Corey Robinson in the end zone attempting to get the two point conversion, but the ball went through Robinson’s hands. With 10:46 left in the 4th quarter, Clemson again added to their lead when Greg Huegel nailed a 35 yard field goal to put them up 24-9. Notre Dame would add another touchdown when with 9:03 left Deshone Kiser ran 3 yards for the touchdown and the Justin Yoon kick was good to make it a 24-16 game. With 7 seconds left in the game Deshone Kizer threw a back of the end zone fade to Torri Hunter Jr to make it a 24-22 game. After that TD pass Kizer attempted to run it in for the 2 point conversion and was stopped almost immediately to basically end the game.

Next week Notre Dame goes home as rival Navy comes to South Bend for what should be a good matchup. Next week Clemson plays Georgia Tech at home.
