It's been a horrible five years for the Maryland Terrapins football program. Hiring Randy Edsall, who is a good guy, was a mistake. The move to the Big Ten only exposes this further. The Terrapins under Edsall have a 22-33 record with an 0-11 record against top 25 opponents with the latest being a shut out in week 5 against the Michigan Wolverines 28-0.

Now, it looks like Edsall's time with the Terps are over according to Jeff Ermann of Maryland247sports.com.

There is an argument to be made that the 28-0 loss to the Wolverines last week isn't even the most embarrassing loss the Terps have had this early in the season. How about the 48-27 home loss to the Bowling Green Falcons? Or how about the 45-6 road loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers? The players on the Terps roster have played uninspired football. It doesn't even look like they are trying. It clearly looks like Edsall has lost the football team.

The recruiting is on its way to being better for the football program, but not soon enough to keep Edsall around. The football program is quickly becoming the joke of the Big Ten in such a short amount of time.  Maryland has a lot of resources with Under Armour at their disposal and that comes with a lot of expectations. Maryland historically isn't a football power but they do have a national championship and they do have a hot bed for talented high school football players in the Baltimore/Washington metro area.

A lot hasn't been expected of in Maryland for quite a while now. That is changing. There are no excuses for this team. It is expected for Maryland to try and hit a home run hire at the head coach position. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly has been rumored to be a candidate for the position, and he could be a great start for the program in a dire position.
