7:00 PM: The Monday Night Countdown coverage has begun on ESPN. One hour until kickoff.

6:40 PM: The Washington Redskins also will have some tough decisions to make when it comes down to what wide receivers will be on the 53 man roster. They’ve got a lot of depth currently at the position, with the only locks being Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson, and Andre Roberts. After a few Jay Gruden press conferences, he has been open about how high he is on both speedster Aldrick Robinson as well as rookie Ryan Grant. With veteran Santana Moss also expected to make the roster, there is a heavy competition between guys like Cody Hoffman and Rashad Ross. This competition makes things tough on veteran Leonard Hankerson, who is attempting to return from knee surgery before the end of the preseason.

6:20 PM: The Washington Redskins have a good number of players competing to be the change of pace running back next to third-year bruiser Alfred Morris. For the past two seasons, that guy has been Roy Helu Jr. However, the door is open for guys like Evan Royster, the often-injured Chris Thompson or rookie Lache Seastrunk to climb up the depth chart with strong preseason performances. New head coach Jay Gruden was very successful using a two-running back system with BenJarvus Green-Ellis and rookie Giovani Bernard when he was the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.

6:05 PM: Jason Hatcher (knee), Chris Thompson (ankle), and Darryl Sharpton (ankle) are all expected to sit out for the Washington Redskins. Brandon Meriweather (toe) is questionable, but reportedly is unlikely to play.

5:55 PM: Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan will return to Landover, Maryland after him and his father were fired by the Washington Redskins at the conclusion of last season. Shanahan did an excellent job utilizing the dual-threat ability of Robert Griffin III in his rookie season and hopes to do the same this year with another rookie quarterback, Johnny Manziel.

5:50 PM: Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson will both make their preseason debuts for the Washington Redskins after they sat out the opener with a sprained ankle and a sore hamstring, respectively. This means that Robert Griffin III will have his full arsenal of offensive weapons including Alfred Morris, newly acquired WR Andre Roberts as well as second-year tight end Jordan Reed.

5:45 PM:Eighth overall pick CB Justin Gilbert has been severely overshadowed by fellow rookie Johnny Manziel. However, he will see his first action for the Cleveland Browns after recovering from a nagging groin injury. He will start across from Pro Bowler Joe Haden to which he says, “It’s like a dream come true playing next to a great guy like that.” If Justin Gilbert pans out at the professional level, the Browns will have one of the best cornerback duos in the NFL.

5:43 PM: The major storyline in this one is the quarterback controversy/competition in Cleveland. Browns new head coach Mike Pettine has said that both Brian Hoyer and rookie Johnny Manziel will take snaps with the first team offense this week. This was expected to happen after Manziel performed quite well in his highly anticipated preseason debut last week against the Detroit Lions. However, Hoyer will start the game for the second consecutive week. Pettine said on Friday that he is “hopeful” that he can name his starter for the season by Tuesday.

5:40 PM: Washington Redskins new head coach Jay Gruden has said that his starters will play the entire first quarter this week after playing just one drive in the preseason opener against the New England Patriots.

5:39 PM: This game highlights a matchup of two rookie head coaches. Jay Gruden has taken over the reins of the Washington Redskins after spending the previous three seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals. Mike Pettine has become the new Cleveland Browns head coach after spending last season as the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills.

5:36 PM:You’ll be hard pressed to find two quarterbacks in the league that are more talked about than Robert Griffin III and Johnny Manziel. These two young, dual-threat quarterbacks have the ability to change the game at any given moment. It will be exciting to look both of these quarterbacks tonight, especially when they get outside the pocket.

5:35 PM: The Cleveland Browns lost their first preseason game 13-12 to the Detroit Lions while the Washington Redskins won their preseason opener against the New England Patriots by a score of 23-6.

5:33 PM:This matchup will be broadcast at 8:00 PM EST as part of ESPN’s coverage of Monday Night Football.

5:30 PM: The Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns will face off at FedEx Field on Monday Night Football to conclude Week 2 of the 2014 NFL Preseason.
