When Jay Gruden took the podium Monday to address the media, the focus was hardly on the Redskins dominating 41-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Instead, Gruden was bombarded with questions about the injury status of quarterback Robert Griffin III.

As soon as the press conference was underway, the much anticipated questions was asked: "Jay, what's the latest on Robert?" Gruden answered by saying that the third-year quarterback has a dislocated ankle, but no fracture was present. This is a relief because it means that the ankle in question will not require surgery. He added that Griffin will be put in a cast for a few weeks and after that it will be determined about how long Griffin will be out.

Despite seemingly endless questions from reporters wanting to know more about the recovery timetable for Griffin, Gruden stuck to his guns by saying that we will have to wait and see. It is likely that there is a rough timetable for Griffin's recovery, however Gruden is making the right decision by not making that information readily available. The last thing the Redskins organization wants is for Robert Griffin III to rush back from injury yet again maybe because he feels that he needs to meet this given timetable. Gruden did say that he is very optimistic that Griffin will return to the field this season, adding that there has been absolutely no consideration towards putting him on the Injured Reserve list.

Gruden said this injury will be a "step back" for Griffin's development, adding "you're sick about it because you spent so much time with Robert getting ready. You hate for something like this to happen to somebody."

With Robert Griffin III out for an extended period of time, the focus of the presser switched to questions about backup QB Kirk Cousins. Gruden answered questions about changing the game plan for a quarterback who is not nearly as mobile as RG3 by saying, "Our game plan is our game plan, and nothing will change, really, with Kirk Cousins at quarterback."

Kirk Cousins played an excellent game against the Jaguars after Griffin went down with the injury, so naturally Griffin was going to face questions about a QB controversy. When asked what would happen if Cousins continued to shred defenses while Griffin was hurt, Gruden smiled and laughed saying, "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it." Gruden did, however, express a lot of confidence in Kirk Cousins going forward. He said he was "very impressed" with his ability to run the offense on Sunday and that he "can make all the throws."

Other notes from Jay Gruden's press conference:

DeSean Jackson has a Grade 1 AC Joint sprain and is day-to-day.

Jordan Reed will need to practice at least one day this week in order to play Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Redskins may work out additional quarterbacks to be third on the depth chart behind Colt McCoy.
