According to CSN Bay Area, Vernon Davis' ankle injury he suffered in the second half against the Bears is just a bone bruise, not a significant ankle injury.

If Davis does have to sit a game out, the 49ers may have to turn to Derek Carrier at tight end with Vance McDonald (knee) questionable. It seems as if Davis may suit up for the 49ers' week 3 matchup against the Cardinals. If so, Davis will continue to be a high-end fantasy tight end.

The Cardinals have been somewhat lit up by tight ends this season. San Diego Chargers' tight end Antonio Gates got them for 81 yards, and New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell also tagged 81 yards on them. If Davis is in, play him with confidence. Last season, Davis tacked on 180 yards with 2 touchdowns in week 6 against the Cardinals, and 45 yards and a touchdown in week 17.

Derek Carrier might not be a bad fill-in if Davis does sit out in week 3. Carrier showed good route-running in week 2 against the Bears and showed an ability to catch the football consistently. If Davis is out, Carrier won't be projected for as much as Davis could have, but is a decent option if your tight-end spot is depleted.
