First, in order to talk about the Buccaneers in 2014 we need to go back and look at the off-season. This off-season Greg Schiano was fired and so was his entire staff, not to mention a lot of roster churn. This is the first reason why the Bucs are so bad. The new general manager Jason Licht went and demolished the roster. Sure, the 2013 Bucs were just as bad. They got of rid of some players that there wishing they had back. They also, didn't do anything about Michael Bennett. They should have re-signed him but they chose not to.

Instead, the Buccaneers focused on the salary cap. Really, they overthought about the salary cap. Obviously it's important to stay under the cap and to focus on it but, what they did was a little outrageous. The Darrelle Revis situation is completely understandable. They wanted to get more players for the amount they were going to pay Revis. In doing this, they were bolder and made more signings in costless agency. They did miss out on some players from 2013 who were great. Players like Donald Penn or fullback Erik Lorig. The Buccaneers have an offensive line issue because its a brand new offensive line. The reason why the Buccaneers have a new team is by over focusing on the cap.

The next reason is to why the Bucs are in the situation they are in is the offense. The Buccaneers picked all offensive players in the 2014 NFL draft is because they knew they already had issues. Against the Falcons the Bucs ran for 48 yards the entire game. Now, of course, pro bowler Doug Martin wasn't in there and that's a big factor. His backup, Bobby Rainey, is very inconsistent. He ran for 122 yards against the Rams, but against the Falcons he fumbled it twice. The offensive line has already been mentioned. The penalties from the offensive line are becoming a problem. The pickup of Logan Mankins has a positive impact when he's healthy. The receivers are doing a better job. The Bucs top draft pick, Mike Evans, has made a big impact. Vincent Jackson has been a slight disappointment; however, he hasn't really been making big plays and catching it like he did last season.

The quarterback situation has honestly been a complete disaster. Josh McCown isn't getting the job done. He's thrown more interceptions then touchdowns. Lovie Smith continues to support him and say there's no competition. There should be one. If only Mike Glennon would get a chance. Mike Glennon played better than McCown on Thursday against the Atlanta Falcons. It's sad when the fans are happy that McCown got hurt. Glennon certainly should be in a competition with McCown.

The final reason the Bucs are the way they are is that they've been hit by the injury bug. This team has had some keys players out for numerous games. Gerald McCoy was hurt and without him it was like the Bucs didn't know how to play defense. All they did it seemed was just stand there and miss tackles. Michael Johnson was missed too because he would have been able to help shut down the running game. Adrian Clayborn was once again missed. Well Dane Fletcher did a nice job filing in for the Bucs, but doesn't play at the same level as Mason Foster.

This team has to start getting it together now. Fans have already been bugging Mel Kiper Jr. for the 2015 NFL mock draft which is rather sad. Finally, Tony Dungy lost his first six, so this could just be growing pains. The Buccaneers can be and will be a good team. They're in the rebuilding stages and need to make positive strides. People want Greg Schiano back and want Lovie Smith fired. Don't be surprised if the fans act like they did when they wanted Schiano fired.
