The Baltimore Ravens as an organization knew week 4 would be important since veteran wide receiver Steve Smith would have his chance at revenge against his former team the Carolina Panthers. Smith waited for this matchup since he got cut by the Panthers during the offseason and he made a fool out of the Panthers' defense as the Ravens rolled over the Panthers 38-10.

Smith had seven catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Smith talked the talk during the week leading up to the game and he most certainly walked the walk.

“I’ll give you a one liner: That film was a coaching session,” Smith noted after the game via Baltimoreravens.com. “I’m 35 years old and I ran around those boys like they were schoolyard kids.”

The entire game against the Ravens will be a coaching session for the Panthers. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco carved up the Panthers' defense going 22 for 31 passing for 327 yards and three touchdowns. The Ravens on offense look as good as they have ever been. The offense is very balanced as the Ravens passing game is ranked ninth in the NFL and the running game is ranked seventh in the NFL.

“It would be great to be able to play like this every week. I think that we have the ability to do it,” Flacco noted via Baltimoreravens.com.

The Ravens offensively controlled the tempo the entire game. When the Ravens wanted to run the ball, they could. When the Ravens wanted to press the issue down the field for a big pass play, the Ravens were able to execute as well.

The biggest key to the Ravens success so far is the fact that the offensive line has played at an elite level overall in the first-four weeks of the regular season. Thanks to the blocking in the passing game, Flacco hasn't been sacked since week 1.

On defense for the Ravens, the defense handled their business once again as they held the Panthers to 10 points. However, the Ravens still have work to do and they know it.

Looking at the Ravens' defense as a whole, the unit is one of the NFL's elite as the defense allows 15 points a game at the moment which ranks the second best in the NFL. The Ravens also have an excellent run defense allowing just under 85 rushing yards a game.

The real problem for the Ravens is their secondary. Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith is easily the team's best defensive back at the moment and one of the most underrated corners in the game. Outside of Jimmy Smith, the Ravens have question marks in terms of consistency. The Ravens don't know what they are going to get each week with cornerbacks in Chykie Brown, and Asa Jackson and safeties in Matt Elam and Darian Stewart. The only touchdown the Ravens allowed to the Panthers was due to a missed assignment by Stewart.

"We busted the simplest coverage you can bust," Jimmy Smith noted via Baltimoresun. "We didn't play it the way we were supposed to be and they got an easy one on us. Basic Cover 2, Darian's deep, I'm short. We didn't play it the right way.”

Once the Ravens get those issues cleared up, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that the Ravens might be one of the most dangerous teams to face down the stretch as the season goes along.

The Ravens haven't played their best football yet and the team sits at 3-1 with an opportunity to go 4-1 against the Indianapolis Colts in week 5.
