It has been reported early on Tuesday morning some of the difference's between the reported $45 million guaranteed in Tannehill's new contract and just exactly how his money is going to be guaranteed. Let's take a closer look and see how this is good for Miami.

So at signing the contract, Tannehill is getting $21.5 million guaranteed. This amount is very low and means that Tannehill is going to get more money guaranteed as he continues playing for the Dolphins. Also, it means that if Ryan regresses in the future, that the Dolphins can move on from him without having as big of a cap hit as they originally would have.

So, in March 2016, Ryan Tannehill is going to get more guaranteed money as expected, giving him an additional $3.5 million guaranteed to bump it up to $25 million overall.

Then, in March 2017, Tannehill gets a nice amount of guaranteed money with $14.475 million getting locked into his contract.

Finally, in March 2018, Tannehill will get the remaining $5.525 million guaranteed. Let's put this in a table for a clearer view for everyone.

Year Amount Guaranteed
2015 $21.5 Million
2016 $3.5 Million
2017 $14.475 Million
2018 $5.525 Million

Guaranteed money is something that is often argued over in contracts, so Ryan Tannehill has to be happy about the guaranteed dollars that are in his contract, since it totals up to just a little bit under half of the total value of the contract. But the Dolphins are really the ones who get the best part of the deal, because if Tannehill doesn't show he is worth it before March of 2017, then the Dolphins can cut him after 5 total years with the team and then save themselves the remaining $20 Million guaranteed.

Tannehill now has the pressure to perform still on him, and it will be interesting to see just how well he performs the next few seasons, because otherwise there may be a split for the Dolphins and Tannehill coming in the future.
