Less than a week into Buffalo Bills training camp and some are reporting the Bills are leaning toward one person to be the quarterback this season.  The Buffalo News reports Matt Cassel took starting reps for the third day in a row which could mean the Bills have their man. Tyrod Taylor alternated with the starters according to the report. EJ Manuel was said to be struggling the most with some incomplete passes.

ESPN broke down the numbers for the first three days of training camp as far as completions. Matt Cassel was a total of 12 for 17 with four sacks and an interception.  Tyrod Taylor was 6 for 10  with six sacks and one touchdown. EJ Manuel was 2 for 10 with three sacks and one botched snap.  This report notes that EJ Manuel, although has only been in the first group once, will likely get more playing time with the first team at the Bills first night practice Monday night.

All of the reports on training camp include some eye witness fan reports do all have one observation in common: None of the quarterbacks (including presumable fourth stringer Matt Simms) have stood out about the rest amid the statistics. Some throws were on target, others were way off. Some releases were quick, others were slow.

The quarterbacks’ reportedly less than stellar performances aren’t something Bills fans want to hear but remember training camp for the Bills began on Friday the 31st. The team’s first preseason game is Friday the 14th against the Carolina Panthers. By then, it may be clear who the actual starter is for the Bills, a team which last year made the switch from EJ Manuel early in the season to veteran and now retired Kyle Orton.  There is also the salary cap to consider which will mean one of the four men now in that position won’t be there come September.

In other Bills News: The Buffalo Bills announced in a statement about the status of Offensive Line Coach Aaron Kromer.  Police in Florida arrested Kromer after he allegedly attacked a teen on the beach over some lawn chairs. Authorities said the charges were dropped as a settlement between Kromer and the victim’s family was agreed upon. Despite the agreement the Bills organization felt there was enough evidence to suspend Kromer for six regular season games. Here is the full statement from Buffalo Bills Managing Partner and President Russ Brandon:

“Over the past several weeks the Bills organization has gathered information regarding the incident involving Offensive Line Coach Aaron Kromer.  Today we have concluded our investigation and the Buffalo Bills will suspend Coach Kromer without pay for the first six games of the 2015 NFL regular season.  The suspension will begin on Monday, September 7, 2015 and end with the conclusion of the Buffalo Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals game on October 18, 2015.”

“We worked in conjunction with the NFL on this matter and we are highly supportive of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy that holds all NFL and club employees to a higher standard.”

“We look forward to Coach Kromer rejoining the Bills organization at Training Camp.”
